      How to Use Safe Zones

      Use the Safe Zones preview in Slate to confirm content will always be fully visible to your audience, and never disrupted by organic overlays on TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat.

      What is a Safe Zone?

      Safe zones provide a preview of how your content will appear on social media by showing the areas where native overlays will be displayed on Instagram Stories & Reels, TikTok and Snapchat. Incorporating safe zones while crafting content is a valuable practice to ensure that all elements, including captions, logos, and graphics remain visible to your audience. 

       How to use Safe Zones on Mobile

      1. Open your Slate mobile app and load in your content you wish to edit
      2. Select the three dots located in the top right corner of your screen
      3. Slide the button next to Safe Zones to toggle “on”
      4. Select what platform you’d like to turn safe zones on for 
      5. Add in any text and graphics you wish to use. The overlay will pop up if the placement of the text or graphic reaches any part of the safe zone
      6. You can also press down and hold on your screen to see a final preview of safe zones for your platform

      How to use Safe Zones on Web

      1. Open your Slate dashboard and click 'Create Content' in the top right corner
      2. Select 'New Project'
      3. Add your media to the workspace
      4. Click the dropdown menu at the top right of the screen titled 'Safe Zones Off', and select which preview you would like to see
      5. Adjust any text, captions, or media necessary to better fit the overlay

      NOTE: Safe zones are only built for 9x16 format. If you are working in a different size, the safe zones drop down will not appear.

      Q: Which platforms does Slate currently have a safe zone for?

      A: We currently have safe zones for Instagram Story, Instagram Reels, Youtube Shorts, TikTok, and Snapchat.

      Q: Can I use more than one safe zone at a time?

      A: You can’t use more than one safe zone at a time! However, you can toggle between different safe zones to confirm each is clear for content getting posted to multiple platforms.
